Today's Legend

Paolo di Canio
Born 9 July 1968 in Rome, Italy

Began his professional career at Lazio, a team he idolized as a child where he won Serie B promotion in 1987-88 season. Later moved to Juventus where he won the UEFA Cup 1992-93, then moved to AC Milan where he won among others Serie A 1995-96 and UEFA Super Cup 1994.

He was best known for his technical skills and finishing touches most notably in West Ham where he played in over 118 league games. In Scotland he played for Celtic where he won the league's Player's Player of the Year 1996-97.

Most would recall his special act of good sportsmanship which earned him FIFA Fair Play Award 2001 where Everton goalkeeper Paul Gerrard was lying injured in the penalty area when di Canio received a cross from Trevor Sinclair, faced with an empty net, Di Canio chose to catch the ball rather than score.

Shocking Fact: Despite his great talent, Paulo Di Canio never played for his country Italy's senior national team. He doesn't have an International Cap.
