Orlando Pirates went into Saturday 06 Nov 2021 Soweto Derby as favourites having came back from a goal down to win 2-1 against Sekhukhune United midweek. Kaizer Chiefs who are struggling to win games came into this game having lost 1-0 to Stellenbosch FC.

Chiefs were first to draw blood in the match deemed one of the biggest rivalry games in the world of soccer. The game came after Pirates' defender attempted to play a back pass only for the ball to fall on the path of Chiefs' Karma Billiat who ran towards Pirates' goalpost to release a pass to Keegan Dolly who slotted the ball into the net.

Pirates fought harder in the 2nd half and their efforts were rewarded when Chiefs keeper Akpeyi made a save but failed to hold on to the ball and it slipped to Mntambo's feet to strike home in the dying minutes of the game (87th minute). Drama unfolded in the 90th minute when Pirates' Olisa Ndah cleared a bouncing ball in the box but grabbed Billiat by the neck in the process. A penalty was awarded and Keegan Dolly grabbed his brace from the spot to give Kaizer Chiefs a 2-1 win.
